But in the United States, Pigs-in-a-Blanket is often hot dogs or sausages wrapped in biscuit or croissant dough and baked and are generally served as an appetizer or as breakfast. but it all started as a way to make kids food fun to eat. Betty Crocker, whose cookbooks decorated every post-war kitchen published a cookbook in 1957 called Betty Crocker’s Cooking for Kids. but soon they became chic cocktail party fare. they are easy to make...and you can modify them to fit even the finickiest of eaters!

Today is an excellent day to understand why we sometimes get in our own way of pursuing our dreams and reaching our full potential. At the beginning of the 20th century, children were transported to and from school in horse-drawn carriages. A.L. Luce, a Ford dealership owner, built a bus body for a 1927 Ford Model T school bus. During a meeting in 1939, they set several requirements for school buses one was that buses were always painted yellow as a norm. The hue was chosen because black letters could be read on it and it was believed to be the easiest to see at sunrise and dusk. School buses have frequently undergone modifications and upgrades, but we still acknowledge the need for bus drivers, which is one thing that hasn’t changed. The praises of school bus drivers are rarely sung....even though they ensure the safety of our most prized possesions...our children.

Chickpeas were found in the Middle East roughly 7,500 years ago. The word ‘chickpea’ comes from the French ‘chiche’ and the Latin ‘cicer.’ and Spanish term for chickpea is garbanzo...but it the same legume. They are a rich source of vitamins, such as the B vitamin folate, and manganese and are high in protein and fiber. Because of their high protein and fiber content along with being gluten-free, chickpeas became a popular source for alternative flour in the 2010s. they're very affordable...you can eat them out the can, put them on salads, turn them into hummus and eat them with veggies or chicken.

Humans have been doing laundry in numerous ways for as long clothes have existed. One of the earliest ways was beating the dust and dirt out of our clothes and bedding with a stick or pounding the grime out against a rock in the river. washing tubs eventually led to the first automatic washing machine. The first U.S. patent for an electric washing machine was granted to Alva J. Fisher in 1910. today, there are apps that can turn your washer on for you!

On April 11, 1900, the USS Holland became the Navy's first modern submarine...but it actually wasn’t the first submarine the US had. The USS Alligator was the first known submarine owned by the United States back in 1832 but it sank in the ocean in 1863, after losing a battle with a brutal storm. life underwater isn’t all that glamorous. Often, crews are out at sea for months at a time and return when food supplies run low. Subs can be cramped with tedious tasks to complete daily. you can visit the national naval museum in washington dc or if you can take a tour of a real submarine..If you can't tour a submarine or go to the Navy museum, go on a virtual tour from home.

Bookmobiles are mobile libraries that help transport books from one local community to another. This day also celebrates the work and dedication of the many people involved, such as library professionals, drivers, donors, and it also encourages people to donate their own books to the cause. The bookmobile tradition in the United States is credited to a librarian who launched the first bookmobile in the early 20th century...she wanted to get books to rural communities. Her bookmobile was a horse-drawn wooden carrier that contained boxes of books. Then in 1912, horses were switched out and the first motorized bookmobiles were born. These bookmobiles went to rural and urban schools, as well as to the homes of senior communities.

Chocolate brownies only came into existence in 1905....Recipes date back to the 19th century and are made up of flour, brown sugar, butter, eggs, baking powder, and vanilla. Walnuts, pecans, or butterscotch chips are sometimes added to the brownies. The first known recipe for blondies was published in 1896 by Fannie Farmer, a pioneer of modern American cookery. Libraries are notoriously underfunded, and that often means they are understaffed....how about volunteering at your local library and consider donating books you no longer read to the library.

Basically, this cake is eaten while taking sips of coffee or tea, hence the name coffee cake. The invention of cake occured in Egypt in the 1400's and coffee came along in Europe in the 1600's...the first mention of a coffee cake was referenced in some library material in 1850....the Danish who institutionalized the culture of eating cake while taking sips of coffee, and as a result of this, coffee cakes evolved as one of their diverse traditional and cultural patterns and by 1965 the popularity of coffee cakes spreads throughout New York, New Jersey, and Delaware as a result of immigration.

Carrots are a rather hearty plant that can grow in many diverse conditions, though they typically come into harvest in the summer and fall seasons of their growth sites. California is responsible for 85% of the carrots that U.S. citizens purchase in grocery stores across the country. Carrots are among the few vegetables that are harvested primarily for their roots, rather than their sprouts. Joining them are potatoes, turnips, radishes, and beets. In the times when you couldn’t look up a name and phone number through a yellow book, or search online for your local artisans, people relied on personal skills and helpful advice to get the job done. In the 6th century B.C., there was a temple-like building in Basilicata, and just like our modern instruction manuals, it held instructions on how to mass-produce its components, as well as how these components fit together to create the building. These ruins were discovered by Italian archeologists, and are now known as ‘an ancient IKEA building’....so if they can diy a temple...you can diy your project too!

Technological advancement and the advent of ever-interesting shows on screen have made reading seem rather boring and old-fashioned for kids. it's a perfect time to reintroduce your young ones to the reading culture by gifting them or reading to them a book that catches their young reader’s attention with a giggle or two. The use of sticks — skewers of wood — in the preparation and consumption of food items goes back a long way. A very long way. An archeological site in Germany contained a stick with a burnt tip, indicating its use in the cooking of meat over a fire, from 300,000 years ago, the Lower Paleolithic era. by 1868 In the streets of the cities of Japan, food vendors begin to sell teriyaki chicken on a skewer stick and today you can find (or make) all kids of culinary masterpieces on a stick.
