In this segment, we explore how hobbies are quietly becoming a powerful tool for digital detox, helping young people limit phone use while reconnecting with focus, creativity, and offline life.

From everyday gestures between strangers to deeply rooted traditions of giving, the ripple effect of kindness is already part of community life. In many faiths, this spirit has long been lived out through practices such as Sikh Dasvandh, Hindu daan punya, and Muslim zakat and Christian tithing, each reflecting a shared commitment to supporting those in need. On Pay It Forward Day, we explores how these different paths of generosity connect through a common thread: the idea that giving doesn’t end with one act but continues, grows, and strengthens the communities we live in today.

The Victorian Budget 2026-27 will deliver a 20 per cent rebate on light vehicle registration. Currently, registration for a light vehicle costs up to $930.70 per year. With the discount, a single-car owner could save up to $186, while families with two cars could receive up to $372. The state government says the measure is aimed at putting money back into the pockets of Victorians, as fuel costs continue to rise. Applications will open on 1 June and remain open until 31 July, giving eligible residents two months to claim the rebate. It will be available to Victorians who own light vehicles for personal use, including cars, utes, and vehicles weighing under 4.5 tonnes.

SBS Hindi spoke with two Indian-origin mariners based in Australia who shared their experiences navigating vessels in the region and concerns about the safety and wellbeing of those at risk of potential attack.

Anzac Day, the anniversary of the 1915 Gallipoli landing of Australian and New Zealand troops in Turkey, is an important day in Australia. When the First World War broke out in 1914, around 30,000 serving Australians from different heritages, including Indian landed on the Gallipoli Peninsula on 25 April 1915, fought to help Britain in the conflict, that costed a huge number of casualties.

The Federal government has unveiled sweeping reforms to the NDIS to curb rising costs and fraud in the $50 billion scheme. The Health minister Mark Butler says tighter eligibility, reduced support and stricter provider regulation are essential for sustainability of the program. Reforms are set to be implemented in 2027. While advocates and providers like Heena Sinha Cheung welcome some changes, concerns remain about access, clarity and overhead costs. With participant numbers set to fall, the government warns the scheme’s future depends on these reforms.
