Swalwell Resigns, Dems' Hasan Piker Problem, TDS at the NY Times | Last Call

4/18/2026
Welcome to Last Call, a look at the biggest stories Jim and Greg covered over the past week on the 3 Martini Lunch. This week, Jim and Greg break down two high-profile congressional resignations, the radical views of popular lefty podcaster and influencer Hasan Piker, New York Times columnist Tom Friedman’s baffling stance on the Iran war, and some badly needed judicial wisdom from Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. First, they welcome the resignations of Caiifornia Rep. Eric Swalwell and Texas Rep. Tony Gonzales. Swalwell is the Democrat who was running for governor until sexual assault and other allegations forced him out of the race. Gonzales, a Republican who is married, had an affair with a married staffer who later committed suicide by self-immolation. They react to the resignations and what's left of the Democrats running for governor in Caiifornia. Next, they react to lefty podcaster Hasan Piker doubling down on his claim that Israel is a thousand times worse than Hamas. Piker is a prominent voice on the left and some candidates have asked him to campaign with them. You'll also learn who Piker sees as the biggest terrorist organization in the world. Then they throw up their hands as longtime New York Times columnist Tom Friedman says he's conflicted over who he wants to win the Iran war. We'll explain the absurd reasons for his conundrum and just how deranged that thinking is. Finally, after all of that bad news, Greg and Thursday guest host and former Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli close with some refreshing wisdom from Justice Thomas about the proper role of judges. Dems Relentlessly Push for More Power, Some GOP Helping Them on Amnesty

4/16/2026
Former Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli fills in for Jim Geraghty on the Thursday 3 Martini Lunch. Today, Ken and Greg break down another maddening bipartisan push for immigration amnesty, the latest battle over Virginia’s congressional map, and a sweeping new gun control effort from Virginia Democrats. First, they examine the so-called “Dignity Act,” backed by Republican Rep. Maria Salazar, which would grant legal work status to illegal immigrants who arrived before 2021 and have not committed additional crimes. While supporters insist it’s not amnesty, Cuccinelli says it is clearly amnesty. He also explains how radical the left has become on this issue and why there are always some Republicans who never learn when it comes to this issue. Next, Ken and Greg update the fight over Democrats' efforts to radically redraw Virginia's congressional map and flip four additional seats in their favor. Cuccinelli explains why he's optimistic that the referendum will fail and why he's confident the new map won't take effect even if voters approve it. Then, they dive into Virginia Democrats’ escalating gun control agenda, highlighting how the state serves as a preview of the midterm elections. They argue it’s a clear example of the gap between the supposedly moderate promises Democrats make on the campaign trail and the far left policies they pursue once in power. Finally, after all of that bad news, they close with some refreshing wisdom from Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas about the proper role of judges. 4/14/2026

Injustice in Charlotte? Newsom's Odd Parenting, Amazing Iran Rescue | Last Call

4/11/2026
Welcome to Last Call, a look at the biggest stories Jim and Greg covered over the past week on the 3 Martini Lunch. This week, Jim and Greg break down how the Charlotte train murderer may escape true justice, the eyebrow-raising parenting confessions from Jennifer Siebel Newsom, wife of California Gov. Gavin Newsom, and the jaw-dropping success of the U.S. military in rescuing two Americans shot down over Iran. First, they vent after DeCarlos Brown, who stabbed Iryna Zarutska to death on train in Charlotte, is deemed incompetent to stand trial in a mental health evaluation. Jim and Greg explain how it's thoroughly implausible for this diagnosis to suddenly emerge now and how this would be a major miscarriage of justice if the court agrees. Next, they dive into comments from California "First Partner" Jennifer Siebel Newsom, who revealed some extreme parenting tactics to fight the patriarchy. Jim and Greg reveal what they think of her advice and what impact this could have on Gavin Newsom's presidential ambitions. Then, they marvel at the U.S. military’s unwavering commitment to leaving no man behind and highlight the remarkable coordination between armed forces and the intelligence community to extract the American flight crew before Iranian forces could capture them. Finally, in this week's chaser, they can only laugh as MSNOW's Lawrence O'Donnell launches the most ridiculous attack possible in connection with the amazing rescue mission conducted in Iran last weekend. Zarutska Killer Found Not Competent to Stand Trial

4/9/2026
Join Jim and Greg for the Thursday 3 Martini Lunch as they break down how the Charlotte train murderer may escape true justice, the Justice Department’s crackdown on a military leaker, and why Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger is already facing sinking approval numbers. Plus, MSNOW's Lawrence O'Donnell delivers a head-scratching reaction to the Iran rescue mission. First, they vent after DeCarlos Brown, who stabbed Iryna Zarutska to death on a Charlotte, North Carolina, is deemed incompetent to stand trial in a mental health evaluation. Jim and Greg explain how it's thoroughly implausible for this diagnosis to suddenly emerge now and how this would be a major miscarriage of justice if the court agrees. Next, they applaud the FBI and Justice Department for charging a former United States Special Operations Command employee at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, over the alleged leak of “top secret” classified intelligence tied to a highly sensitive military unit. Then, they help Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger understand the reasons why her political honeymoon is over and why her approval numbers are already south of 50 percent. Trump Agrees to Ceasefire, But Can Iran Be Trusted?

4/8/2026
Join Jim and Greg for the Wednesday 3 Martini Lunch as they break down President Trump’s agreement to a two-week ceasefire with Iran, the political implications of a Republican victory in a key Georgia U.S. House special election, a decisive liberal win on the Wisconsin Supreme Court, and the ongoing success of the Artemis II mission. First, they take a deep dive into what we know so far about the temporary U.S.-Iran ceasefire, examining whether the deal advances American interests. Jim zeroes in on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, Iran's absurd conditions to negotiate, and what national security goals must be achieved before agreeing to anything long term. Next, they react to Republican Clay Fuller’s win in the Georgia special election to replace Marjorie Taylor Greene in Congress. Fuller won by nearly 12 points, but since Trump won the district by 37 points in 2024, how much should the narrower results cocern the GOP heading into the midterms? Then, they wince at the results in Wisconsin, where the Democrat-endorsed judicial candidate cruises to a commanding victory in the state Supreme Court race, further tilting the court’s ideological balance. Finally, they marvel at the accomplishments of Artemis II as it now returns to Earth. California Chaos: High Speed Rail Fiasco & The Eric Swalwell Scandal

4/7/2026
Join Jim and Greg for the Tuesday 3 Martini Lunch as they break down President Trump’s search for the source of a sensitive Iran rescue leak, the staggering new funding demands for California’s troubled high-speed rail project, and explosive allegations surrounding Rep. Eric Swalwell’s gubernatorial run. First, they fully support President Trump's frustration with someone leaking critically important and sensitive information during the mission to rescue two American aviators from Iran. But they also caution that trying to figure it out by targeting media who reported the leaks is likely to end in more frustration. Next, they shake their heads in disbelief as officials in California insist $126 billion will finish the high speed rail project that is already way over budget and hopelessly behind schedule. Jim and Greg explain why this project has been such a mess and react to those with the gall to ask for even more taxpayer money. Then, they examine allegations from a left-wing attorney claiming Eric Swalwell engaged in inappropriate relationships with multiple interns and required non-disclosure agreements. If some of these women go public, what will be the impact on Swalwell? Jim and Greg also react to President Trump endorsing Steve Hilton in the California governor's race. Join Jim and Greg for the Monday 3 Martini Lunch as they discuss the jawdropping excellence of the U.S. military in rescuing two Americans shot down over Iran, the far left bias pushed on AP history students, and the disturbingly woke parenting confessions of Jennifer Newsom, wife of California Gov. Gavin Newsom. Plus, they're happy to see the return of Savannah Guthrie to the Today show. First, they marvel at the U.S. military’s unwavering commitment to leaving no man behind and highlight the remarkable coordination between armed forces and the intelligence community to extract the American flight crew before Iranian forces could capture them. Next, they react to an X post from New York Post and Fox News columnist Karol Markowitz, who spotlights a controversial political spectrum chart from an AP high school government textbook. The graphic places major political figures on axes of authoritarianism vs. libertarianism and economic left vs. right. The results are insane. Is your child being taught this too? Then, they dive into comments from California "First Partner" Jennifer Siebel Newsom, who revealed that she had her sons play with dolls and she makes sure the hero is a female in every story she reads to her kids. 'No Kings' Exposed, Reckless Charlie Kirk Report & 'Define Women' Fail | Last Call

4/4/2026
Welcome to Last Call, a look at the biggest stories Jim and Greg covered over the past week on the 3 Martini Lunch. Jim was on vacation this week but Greg enjoyed great conversations wiith our guest hosts on the Daily Mail's irresponsible reporting on the Charlie Kirk murder case, the reality beind the No Kings protests, and Pennsylvania Democrats stumped when asked to define "women." First, Greg and National Review's Charles C.W. Cooke dismantle a Daily Mail report highlighting a defense motion in the Charlie Kirk murder case that’s being framed as a bombshell revelation. Charlie explains why the filing is a routine legal strategy and not evidence supporting conspiracy theories promoted by figures like Candace Owens. Next, Greg ane former Virginia lawmaker Nick Freitas highlight the latest series of "No Kings" protests around the U.S. last weekend and how numerous rallies featured communist flags and banners. They also highlight how this supposedly grassroots effort is funded and carefully organized by very far left groups. Then, Nick and Greg get a good laugh as Democrats in Pennsylvania try to approve a resolution honoring March as National Women's Month. But a very simple Republican amendment ended up derailing the whole thing. We share the story and discuss how the the party that supposedly champions women ends up insulting and disrespecting them over and over again. In this week's chaser, Greg and Charlie Cooke react to the bizarre story of twelve tons of KitKat products stolen in Europe. Trump Drops Attorney General Pam Bondi & Here’s Why

4/3/2026
Hillsdale College Radio General Manager and Radio Free Hillsdale Hour host Scot Bertram fills in for Jim Geraghty on on the Friday 3 Martini Lunch. Today, Scot and Greg discuss President Trump firing Attorney General Pam Bondi, anti-Semitism driving a majority of hate crimes in New York City, the radical beliefs of a competitive U.S. Senate candidate in Michigan, and King Charles III skipping an Easter message.. First, they react to President Trump's dismissal of Pam Bondi. Trump insists Bondi did a good job and they she will take on a different role in the administration. So why did Trump make this move? Scot and Greg offer a couple of explanations for why this happened and why it happened now. Next, they examine troubling new data from the NYPD showing that a majority of hate crimes in New York City during the first quarter of 2026 were driven by anti-Semitism. Scot explains why he thinks Islamic radicals feel emboldened right now in New York City and beyond. Greg suggests there's a pretty simple way to bring those numbers way down. Then, they take a close look at Abdul El-Sayed, one of the Democrats running for U.S. Senate in Michigan in a very close primary. New reporting this week shows El-Sayed wanted to avoid a public response to the U.S. killing of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khameini. And a former member of the campaign staff says El-Sayed true beliefs on Israel and other issues are deeply disturbing. In the Friday chaser, Scot and Greg shake their heads as the UK's King Charles III declines to give an Easter message just weeks after issuing a very positive statement for Ramadan. Trump's Strategy Crushing Iran, Victory on the Horizon?

4/2/2026
Inez Stepman of the Independent Women's Forum is in for Jim Geraghty for the Thursday 3 Martini Lunch. Today, Inez and Greg discuss President Trump's Iran speech, the agreement among congressional Republicans to fund most of the Department of Homeland Security, and another facepalm moment from Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson. First, they're glad President Trump once again explained just how devastatingly successful the U.S. military has been against Iran over the past month and that operations should be over within 2-3 weeks. But there are still big questions about what conditions we need to say it's over and what happens after that in the region. Next, they react to House Speaker Mike Johnson agreeing to take up and pass the Senate bill funding most of Homeland Security, except parts of ICE and Customs and Border Protection. It's a win for airline passengers and DHS employees who haven't been paid since mid-February. But it's another example of Republicans making frustrating concessions. Then, they shake their heads at the illustration used by Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson to defend the current understanding of birthright citizenship as desribed in the 14th Amendment. Inez also explains why the Trump administration is unlikely to win the case currently before the court. SCOTUS Free Speech Ruling & The Birthright Citizenship Clash

4/1/2026
Inez Stepman of the Independent Women’s Forum fills in for Jim Geraghty on Wednesday’s 3 Martini Lunch. Today, Inez and Greg break down a major Supreme Court free speech ruling, the latest birthright citizenship arguments before the court, Congress leaving DHS unfunded for another two weeks, and the jaw-dropping cost of college at George Washington University & other schools. First, they react to the Supreme Court’s 8-1 ruling against a Colorado law that banned therapists from counseling minors to accept that their biological sex is correct. Inez also slams Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson as essentially writing op-eds from the bench instead of rooting decisions in the law. They also discuss today's high profile birthright citizenship case. Next, they take Congress to task for leaving Washington for a two-week break while the Department of Homeland Security remains unfunded. Inez argues this dysfunction underscores the need for at least a talking filibuster, and maybe an end to the fllibuster altogether, to get things done. Greg is skeptical that ending the filibuster would be good in the short term or the long term. Then, they dig into the skyrocketing cost of higher education after reports that George Washington University will charge returning students up to $98,000 per year for tuition, room, and board. Inez explains how government involvement in higher education continues to drive prices higher, leaving families burdened while universities reap the benefits. Finally, they highlight the scheduled launch of the Artemis II mission, which aims to send astronauts around the moon and pave the way for future lunar landings and a permanent base there. They're glad to see America aiming high again, both in exploration and for our national security. Daily Mail Report Ignites False Claims in Charlie Kirk Case

3/31/2026
National Review Senior Editor Charles C.W. Cooke, host of the Charles C.W. Cooke Podcast, fills in for Jim on Tuesday’s 3 Martini Lunch. Charlie and Greg break down misleading Daily Mail reporting fueling conspiracy theories about the Charlie Kirk murder case, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt blasting media silence on a high-profile crime committed by an illegal alien, and backlash from The View over comments encouraging young women to get married and have kids. First, they dismantle a Daily Mail report highlighting a defense motion in the Charlie Kirk murder case that’s being framed as a bombshell revelation. Charlie explains why the filing is a routine legal strategy and not evidence supporting conspiracy theories promoted by figures like Candace Owens. They also praise Karoline Leavitt for calling out major broadcast networks for giving minimal coverage to the murder of Loyola University student Sheridan Gorman by an illegal alien. Charlie and Greg examine the media’s reluctance to spotlight crimes involving illegal immigrants and the left's pattern of protecting violent criminal illegals from deportation. Next, they dig into why the women on The View would be so horrified that a speaker at last week's CPAC encouraged young women to prioritize marriage and having children while they are young. Charlie also points out the policy ignorance on display in the reaction on The View. Finally, in today’s chaser, they react to the bizarre story of twelve tons of KitKat products stolen in Europe. 3/30/2026
Former Virginia Del. Nick Freitas, host of the Making the Argument podcast, fills in for Jim Geraghty on the Monday 3 Martini Lunch. They also highlight how this supposedly grassroots effort is funded and carefully organized by very far left groups. Joe Kent Controversy, Chicago Murder Blame & Kimmel Mockery | Last Call

3/28/2026
Welcome to Last Call, a look at the biggest stories Jim and Greg covered over the past week on the 3 Martini Lunch. This week, they discuss Joe Kent offering to testify for the defense in the Charlie Kirk murder case, an Illinois politician blaming the victim for being murdered by an illegal alien, and Jimmy Kimmel mocking Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin’s blue-collar background First, they react with disbelief as former National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent claims the FBI blocked his investigation into Charlie Kirk’s assassination and now says he is willing to testify in defense of the accused killer. Jim and Greg weigh in on the unhinged, conspiracy-minded podcast hosts and what this tells us about Kent in particular. Next, they fume over the murder of a college student near Loyola University in Chicago, allegedly at the hands of an illegal immigrant. A Chicago alderman quickly suggested on social media that the victim may unintentionally be to blame or her own killing. Jim calls out the left's huge double standard on illegals. Then, they also call out Jimmy Kimmel for ridiculing Sec. Mullin’s roots as a plumber. In the chaser of the week, Jim and Greg highlight Virginia Rep. Don Beyer admitting his state's gerrymandering effort is "unfair" but explainng why he thinks voters should approve of it anyway. Senate Funds DHS But Who Actually Caved?

3/27/2026
Join Jim and Greg for the Friday 3 Martini Lunch as they dissect the Senate deal to fund the Department of Homeland Security except for ICE and Customs & Border Patrol, reports that many more U.S. ground forces may be mobilized for the war with Iran, and San Francisco school officials reverse the big mistake of eliminating middle school algebra, which had been done in the name of "equity." First, they react to the U.S. Senate passing funding for most of DHS, while excluding ICE and Customs and Border Protection, via a late-night voice vote. Jim and Greg unpack why some conservatives see this as a strategic Republican win, while others argue the GOP squandered critical leverage and caved in this standoff. Next, they examine reports that up to 10,000 additional U.S. ground forces could be mobilized to the Middle East, giving President Trump more options in the war with Iran. Jim explains why he supports the war effort but stresses that the administration must clearly and publicly justify the deployment of any ground troops. Finally, they offer muted applause for the San Francisco School Board after it reverses its controversial decision to eliminate middle school algebra in the name of “equity.” With test scores declining in the years since the change, Jim explains why dumbing down standards and expectations hurts everyone.
