Coach Harvey Hyde on USC fighting through adversity to take down Iowa
11/17/2025
On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together talking about the Trojans second half surge against Iowa Saturday afternoon in a soggy Coliseum. After falling behind 21-7 in the first half, USC's offense came to life and the defense shut down the Hawkeyes en route to a hard-fought 26-21 victory that keeps the dream of a College Football Playoffs berth alive. Coach Hyde talks about how this team was able to "Fight On" through adversity, falling behind early in the game and dealing with miserable weather conditions that suited the visitor much more than the home team. Sitting at 8-2 overall and 6-1 in conference play, USC has a huge opportunity heading to Oregon this weekend with College Gameday and the entire country watching. Tunnel Vision: Recapping USC's wet and wild "culture win" against Iowa
11/16/2025
On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") and intern Riley Sager are back in studio recapping the Trojans 26-21 come from behind victory over the Hawkeyes in a stormy Coliseum. The weather favored the visitors, with heavy rains bogging down the playing surface and adding extra challenges to the passing attacks. Iowa jumped out to an early lead, surprisingly through the air, and kept USC off-balance for most of the first half. Head coach Lincoln Riley and his squad got things right in the second half, shutting down the Hawkeyes on offense and utilizing wide receivers Makai Lemon and Ja'Kobi Lane, allowing USC to overcome Riley's largest halftime deficit in the Coliseum. Connor and Riley have finally dried out and talk about their experiences in a rare rain game in the Coliseum and how the Trojans fought through adversity, showed some toughness and grit and delivered what Riley called a "culture win" for USC. USC Triple-Double: Women of Troy get top 10 win as both Trojan teams start 2-0
11/13/2025
The USC Triple-Double Podcast -- the Peristyle Podcast's basketball-focused podcast -- returns with co-hosts Shotgun Spratling and Connor Morrissette (aka Mr. Triple Double) breaking down the strong start of the 2025-26 season for the Trojans' men and women's basketball programs, including a top 10 win on the East Coast for the Women of Troy. Shotgun and Connor talk about the outstanding comeback victory over No. 9 North Carolina State in Charlotte that saw the USC women score the final eight points of the game, closing out the game with four minutes of scoreless defense and a game-winning bucket from freshman Jazzy Davidson with 8.2 seconds remaining. The podcasting duo also take a look at the USC men getting a pair of blowout wins that saw three different players score 20+ points in the season opener against Cal Poly and seven different players score in double figures while putting up 114 points -- most since scoring 117 points against Arizona State in 1998 -- in a victory over Manhattan. Shotgun and Connor break down all four of the games with their patented Triple-Double segment. After a break, they look at where the two programs stand after the first week of the season and look forward to some intriguing matchups this weekend with the men taking on Illinois State in the Intuit Dome in a multi-team event and the women facing off Dawn Staley's No. 2 South Carolina squad in Crypto.com Arena in what could be a second- or third-weekend NCAA tournament preview. The USC Triple-Double concludes with a look at the signing classes for each program as the Women of Troy signed the No. 1 player in the nation for the third time in four years and one of the top international players while Eric Musselman's staff went twinning, signing the sons of a former NBA elite rim protector. Iowa heads west to take on USC in a clash of styles in the Coliseum
11/12/2025
In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") and intern India Otto are back in studio following USC's victory over Northwestern on Friday night in the Coliseum, with the Trojans pouring it on in the second half. The victory was an important one where the offense got back on track and the defense for the second week in a row played much better in the third and fourth quarters. Sitting at 7-2 overall and 5-1 in Big Ten play, USC is set up for a run at the College Football Playoffs if it can win the final three games on the schedule. First up on that run for a playoff berth is Iowa, coming up a last-second loss at home to Oregon. The Hawkeyes want to slow the game down, play defense and make some plays on special teams while the Trojans like to open things up and make big plays up and down the field. It will be a clash of styles in the Coliseum with a higher spot in the Big Ten hierarchy on the line. The crew gives their thoughts on how the team performed against Northwestern and looks ahead to the showdown with Iowa. Can the Trojans build off the past two B1G victories and take down a Hawkeyes squad that doesn't make many mistakes and takes advantage of any mistakes their opponents make? Helium Boys Podcast: USC clears Northwestern, set for massive date with Iowa and apples
11/12/2025
Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino return for another highly anticipated episode of the Helium Boys Podcast to discuss USC's big 38-17 win over Northwestern and a big homecoming matchup with Iowa this weekend. Shotgun spends his 'Two-Minute Drill' to set the mood for this matchup with Iowa and head coach Kirk Ferentz, who has directly taken some shots at head coach Lincoln Riley and the Trojans in recent years. Chris spends his 'Two-Minute Drill' discussing how Saturday will be a good measuring stick for USC in terms of how far the program has come since the loss to the Hawkeyes in the 2019 Holiday Bowl. The Helium Boys then dive into Stock Up, Stock Down from the home victory over Northwestern, which includes a lengthy discussion about numerology and fake punts as well as Ja'Kobi Lane's making a number of difficult catches. King Miller, Braylon Conley, Carlon Jones, Matai Tagoa'i, Makai Lemon and Jide Abasiri are among the other players mentioned positively while the offensive line had one of their worst performances of the season. In the second half of the show, Chris and Shotgun look at the Iowa Hawkeyes, coming off a narrow 18-16 loss at home to No. 7 Oregon. The Trojans will welcome the Iowa Hawkeyes to the Coliseum for the first time since 1976, which was a 55-0 blowout win for USC. This will be their first ever meeting as Big Ten opponents. This will be a rematch of the 2019 Holiday Bowl in San Diego where Iowa dominated in the second half to a 49-24 win. Coach Harvey Hyde likes how the USC offense progressed in the win over Northwestern
11/10/2025
On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together talking about the Trojans taking care of business Friday night against Northwestern, winning 38-17 thanks to big nights by Jayden Maiava, King Miller and Makai Lemon plus the defense locking things down in the second half. Coach Hyde likes what he saw from the offense, bouncing back after the struggles in Lincoln by Maiava and the passing game. Coach sees what Riley is doing on offense now and he feels he likes the path Riley is trying to navigate heading into the final stretch of the season. Maiava also showed a lot of fight and Coach likes what he is doing on and off the field as a leader of the team. On the defensive side this is the second week in a row that coordinator D'Anton Lynn has made adjustments at halftime and tightened things up after the break, giving up just 3 points in each of the last two games. They also talk about where USC is in the Big Ten hierarchy, where Coach thinks the Trojans talent level lines up and the conference looking into the fake punt that had quarterback Sam Huard wear the same number as the punter, helping to disguise the play. Coach Harvey Hyde has been part of the Peristyle Podcast since 2008 and in the USC football world he is an expert on X's and O's, personnel, coaching philosophies and recruiting. Tunnel Vision: An impressive home showing for the Trojans in the 38-17 victory over Northwestern
11/9/2025
On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Chris Trevino and intern Riley Sager are back in studio recapping what was another impressive performance in the Coliseum, a 38-17 victory over Northwestern on Friday night. The Trojans and Wildcats were close in the first half, but an amazing defensive play by Jayden Maiava gave USC new life and sparked a 14-point swing. In the second half the Trojan defense took over, allowing only a lone field goal after the break. The crew gives their thoughts on the Trojan offense getting things rolling again, with Jayden Maiava back to his old form, King Miller rushing for over 100-yards in his first Coliseum start and Makai Lemon and Ja'Kobi Lane both bringing their 'A' games. On the defensive side, it was a rough start after Northwestern scored touchdowns on its first two drives, but after that the USC defense was able to tighten up and keep the Wildcats out of the end zone, only allowing 3 points the rest of the way. They also discuss where the 7-2 (5-1) Trojans are in the Big Ten standings, with a legitimate shot at the College Football Playoffs if they can win out. The road gets tougher over the next couple of weeks, with a tough Iowa squad coming to the Coliseum followed by a difficult road trip to Eugene to take on the No. 9 Oregon Ducks. On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") and intern India Otto are back in studio previewing an important Fright night home contest against Northwestern. Lead by head coach David Braun, the upstart Wildcats are 5-3 (3-2 in Big Ten play) and had one four-straight games before falling in a close one to Nebraska. The Trojans are coming off a late night win in Lincoln and have a short week to prepare for Northwestern, a program travelling a couple thousand miles to Los Angeles but is also fully rested after a bye week. Coach Harvey Hyde sees USC's identity as running team that has the potential to win out
11/3/2025
On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together talking about the Trojans notching an important road win in Lincoln, taking down Nebraska 21-17. Winning ugly isn't the goal, but it is much better than the alternative of losing, and with the long travel and hyped up crowd in an impressive "blackout," it was an important victory for Lincoln Riley and his squad. Coach Hyde talked about how necessary this win was for USC, going against a traditional power, a Big Ten foe that was looking for revenge after losing in the Coliseum last year, and a fan base that looked at the game as the biggest event in the state. The Cornhuskers were all in and in year's past, the Trojans likely don't win this game but Saturday night, despite not playing particularly well, USC pulled off the win. With another impressive performance by running back King Miller, Coach Hyde feels this team's identity is the run game, helped by a constantly shifting offensive line and some great tight end play. The Trojans can run the ball and that was essentially the only offensive aspect that was working Saturday night in Lincoln. Defensively Coach Hyde feels they played better, with full knowledge that Nebraska was limited offensively especially in the second half when Dylan Raiola was knocked out of the game. Coach Harvey Hyde has been part of the Peristyle Podcast since 2008 and in the USC football world he is an expert on X's and O's, personnel, coaching philosophies and recruiting.
