A classic mystery featuring legendary detective, Hercule Poirot.The story was first published as a book in the collection Poirot Investigates, 1924, by Bodley Head. The story was adapted for the TV series Agatha Christie’s Poirot in 1990, starring David Suchet, and like many of the other early episodes, included the characters of Hastings, Japp and Miss Lemon, regardless of whether or not they appeared in the original text. In 2004 it was adapted for the Japanese anime series Agatha Christie's Great Detectives, and retitled The Riddle of the Cheap Flat. The show saw Poirot teaming up with Miss Marple's great niece.

Mr Davenheim, a wealthy financier, leaves his home to mail a letter, then fails to return. The story fills the newspapers and intrigues Hercule Poirot, who challenges Inspector Japp that he can solve the case before the police, and without leaving his flat.
