The Wampus Cat is a legendary cryptid from Appalachian folklore and Cherokee legend. This cryptid is described as a half-woman, half-mountain lion creature that stalks the forests of the Appalachian Mountains. It is also known as the Cherokee Death Cat. Rooted in Cherokee mythology, the Wampus Cat is said to have originated when a woman tried to spy on a sacred men’s tribal ritual to prepare for a hunt. It was culturally forbidden for her to see this ritual, and when she was discovered wearing a mountain lion pelt and hiding in the shadows by a medicine man, she was cursed to live the rest of her life as the Wampus Cat. Sightings of the Wampus Cat have been around for centuries. In 1918, The Greenville Sun newspaper reported, “A Wampus is reportedly roaming the big ridge in the vicinity of Gethsemane.” Livestock attacks were blamed on the Wampus Cat, with its preferred prey being dogs, livestock and eagles. The creature was described as a cat-human hybrid with dark matted fur, glowing eyes, and long sharp claws. Many believed it to have supernatural abilities and uncanny speed, agility and was undetectable. Early legends claimed the beast could shapeshift and cloak to be invisible. It has the ability to hypnotize any creature or human with a single glance and its trademark howl terrifies anything in its vicinity. It is also known to mimic the voice of humans. Houska Castle in the Czech Republic is one of the most haunted locations on Earth. It was built in the 13th century on top of a cliff in Prague's countryside, mysteriously isolated from all trade routes with no source of water and all its defenses are facing inward. Some say it wasn't built to keep evil from entering the fortress, but to prevent it from getting out. According to official records, the castle was built as an administrative hub for the king, but Czech folklore maintains that the true purpose of its construction was to seal a gaping crack in the limestone. Locals believed this was a gateway to Hell from which human-animal hybrid beings such as dark-winged beings and a froglike-humanoid emerged to feed on villagers and drag them back into the abyss, never to be seen again. Prisoners who were facing the gallows in the area were offered full pardons if they agreed to be lowered into the bottomless hole and report on what they saw. The first man to do so was young and healthy, and he happily accepted. Within seconds, he cried to be raised up. When he emerged, his hair had turned white and he had aged at least thirty years, dying of unknown causes just days later. Nazi experiments and occult practices took place within the castle during World War II, occupying the castle to investigate whether the gateway to Hell was real and to harness the power of hell. In Siberia, there is a place called the Valley of Death, over 62,000 miles of mostly uncharted land. According to legend, a major battle in the sky occurred there around 800 years ago where fire and explosions were caused by what locals believed was a battle between the gods. After this enigmatic event, strange metal structures were seen scattered around the land. Many travelers and locals reported seeing what they described as large upside-down cauldrons made of what looks like copper, which became known as the Cauldrons of Siberia. People reported that the structures were always warm inside, no matter how cold it was outside, and hunters who sought shelter in them for prolonged periods died, seemingly of symptoms like radiation poisoning. In 1971, an old hunter claimed that he had come across a large harpoon near one of these domes and encountered large one-eyed people inside wearing clothes of iron. Many believe the domes were the result of Soviets secret military experiments from the 1950’s. Others believe they were underground bunkers to protect from an alien threat, and some theorize they were brought there by aliens, or were crashed UFOs. On this episode, Arkheim Ra tasked Jessica with the coordinate remote viewing targets of the planet of Angua and an intergalactic court trial. According to Arkheim, Angua is a desert planet, similar to Arrakas from the movie Dune. This is a continuation of the CRV target for Planet Angua from January 2025.
