REFUSING TO DIE
Dr Oliver Akamnonu
This audiobook is narrated by a digital voice.
REFUSING TO DIE is not a book about medicine or surgery, even when it is written by two old hands in medical practice. It is rather a book about the childhood experiences of two school classmates now both citizens of the United States, whose elite high school studies were interrupted for 30 long months by a brutal civil war in Africa. It has been described as a “genocidal war” which the “civilized world” callously colluded with, or at best shut their eyes to. The grisly-serious “aftershocks” sadly still persist some fifty-eight years after.
It all revolves around the question of whether the freedom of a great and highly enterprising people should continue to be sacrificed on the altar of veiled imperialism of a former western colonial master and the economic benefits of a new gold-digger accomplice from the East. Though the nunc dimittis sounded long ago and the Halleluia sound of victory daily emanates from the victors, the victims of the unholy alliance, even as they groan and bleed profusely, remain resolute and are refusing to die.
