When the Rules Only Apply to You: The Imbalanced Relationship [Ep: 794]

4/23/2025
An imbalanced relationship is a relationship where one of the two people in the relationship is held to a higher standard than the other. In these relationships, one person creates a set of rules for the relationship but the person that creates the rules doesn’t follow them. This creates a double standard within the relationship and puts one person in control and the other being controlled. This double standard leaves one feeling confused, used, and resentful. In the podcast, we examine what it feels like to be in this kind of relationship, positively identifying the signs and symptoms, and helping you understand what’s truly happening in this relationship dynamic. Empowering Young Minds: Helping Children Overcome Negative Self-Beliefs [Ep: 791]

4/8/2025
Many of us suffer or have previously suffered with self-limiting beliefs holding us back throughout our lives. As adults we either realize those beliefs exist or are unaware of their existence. We develop these self-limiting beliefs throughout childhood and they carry into our teen and adult lives impacting us daily. Ashley is joined on the podcast by children’s author and hypnotherapist Jo Galloway. Jo realizes the impact self-limiting beliefs have on us as adults and she wants to stop them in their tracks for children. Jo is passionate about helping children break free from limiting beliefs by promoting positivity, mindfulness, and self-awareness. Together, they discuss the benefits of meditation for young children and the impact of negative self-talk on self-image. They also explore the importance of stopping these negative thoughts, something many adults wish they had learned as children. Jo shares her own true-life story with Ashley. Jo was raised in a good home, but false beliefs caused her to choose tough romantic relationships as an adult. While in a relationship with a malignant narcissist, Jo realized she deserved better. She left the relationship and took the time to understand herself and reprogram her false beliefs. Join Ashley and Jo as they explore ways to nurture a strong, positive mindset in children, fostering lifelong mental well-being. 2/18/2025
Processing and understanding our emotions and seeing our inherent value are two things we strive to achieve in our lifetime. Some of us are still struggling to master one or both of these goals. As adults many of us aren’t taught this by our family or parental unit because they were not taught it by their parents. The younger we are able to grasp these concepts and implement them the happier we will be with ourselves and in life. Joining me on today’s show is Sharmilla Fassbender, counselor, mother of four, and children’s author. Sharmilla has written three inspiring children's books, each carrying a meaningful lesson to help kids navigate life’s challenges. Through her storytelling, she empowers children to embrace growth and resilience. Her latest book, Fantastically Me!, encourages kids to embrace their uniqueness, while her upcoming release, Angry? That’s Ok!, teaches kids that anger is an emotion, but also explores healthy ways to express and manage it. Sharmilla’s books offer valuable insights not just for children but for adults as well. How to Clearly Identify and Recognize a Malignant Narcissist. Ep: [787]

1/29/2025
We hear the term narcissist thrown around a lot in daily discussion. However not all narcissism and narcissists are created equal. Some people possess a few narcissistic tendencies while others seem to display all signs and symptoms. However their is a more extreme form of narcissism that makes the regular brand of narcissism look like child’s play. A Malignant Narcissist is a narcissist that demonstrates others signs and symptoms that an overt or covert narcissist does not. This type of narcissism goes far beyond being self-absorbed or grandiosity. Under the surface, their thoughts and actions can have a calculated and sinister approach, causing significant hurt and pain to those around them. Understanding the malignant narcissist is crucial for setting boundaries and safeguarding ourselves. By identifying their traits and gaining a deeper understanding of their behavior, we empower ourselves to navigate these challenging relationships. When it comes to the malignant narcissist, knowledge truly is power. When Excuses Becomes Toxic: When to Draw the Line. Ep.[786]

1/22/2025
Empathy is a wonderful personal quality, caring for others goes hand-and-hand, and giving others the benefit of the doubt goes a long way with respect to specific situations and circumstances. We can acknowledge other people's pain and life stressors. However at what point does making excuses for others actions and choices become unhealthy? Are we unintentionally enabling unhealthy behaviors? During this podcast, I fully discuss and explain when making excuses crosses the line into unhealthy territory. Recognizing when these excuses hold us back from doing what’s best for us or doing what is best for someone else. The more we stop making excuses for our actions, the less likely we are to make excuses for others. There's a fine line when excusing specific behavior becomes unhealthy, both for the people in our lives and in our own life. It’s also important to remember that we cannot judge others’ behavior without first looking at our own. Understanding this balance allows us to maintain healthier relationships and live more authentically. Navigating Uncertainty: Coping with Aging Parents and Life's Challenges. Episode 775

9/30/2024
Our thoughts often revolve around where we are, what we're facing, and the uncertainties of the future. We may wonder what will happen to us, our friends, or our aging parents. Fear of the unknown can creep in, especially if we're an only child or only responsible adult child with all of these responsibilities. It can feel overwhelming. How do we navigate these challenges? How do we process and respond to them? There are no right or wrong answers, there are no directions. We’re all just trying to figure it out as we go, hoping for the best. In today’s show, I want to discuss how we process these situations, compartmentalize our emotions, and move forward when a parent, family member, or friend isn’t listening to us or considering our thoughts and opinions. What can we do to put things back into perspective when we are trying to help our aging parents, family members, or friends and they don’t want to take our advice? We need to learn to be okay with that. We can offer guidance and support but can't force anyone to see things our way.
