This story is a belated tribute to the past, a tribute to my youthful fascination with the good old science fiction of the 1960s, the early books of the Strugatsky brothers, Stanislav Lem, Arthur Clarke, science fiction that was a little naive, believing in science, promising the imminent exploration of space and even a bright future. It based on speculative science, and may be entertaining for those who love physics. In addition, it features new world and a rather unexpected ending that leaves room for your envision.
The universe is vast, and the distances from us to other inhabited worlds are unimaginably vast. Traveling to them, even if possible, would require an enormous amount of time on Earth's clock. And, most likely, it would be a one-way ticket, a journey without return. The instantaneous jumps in space, so beloved by science fiction writers, as well as back-and-forth jumps in time, are simply impossible. But with other dimensions of space not everything is so simple and clear to modern physics. And who knows, perhaps unknown worlds exist right nearby, in other dimensions that are not yet accessible.
