Police in Burlington County say they found bomb-making material in two homes over the weekend and the suspect is a minor. ... As Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker embarks on a plan to increase the supply of affordable housing, City Council approved two measures that jeopardize the construction of several dozen new affordable units. ... Riders of SEPTA's Chestnut Hill East line will have to find an alternative way to get around this summer. The line is being shut down for maintenance.

Philly’s Odunde festival celebrates its 50th anniversary. It's the largest black and African cultural festival in the country, celebrating arts, culture, and cuisine. Police in Burlington county, New Jersey, have named an under-aged Moorestown resident as a suspect after they say they found explosive materials in two homes this weekend. Officials conducted a search at a home on cove road, and found materials for an improvised explosive device. They say the suspect brought the materials to the home, and the residents are not suspects. After that, bomb technicians located more I-E-D materials at a home on east oak avenue. Those were detonated on the scene, after nearby homes were evacuated until residents were safe to return. The investigation is ongoing by local, state and federal officials. They have not identified any other threats at this time. Philadelphia city council, last week, approved 800-million dollars in bonds and several bills to speed the development of affordable housing…. and, on the same day, effectively killed the construction of 80 affordable units. Septa is shutting down service on the chestnut hill east regional rail line for the entire summer. But it has nothing to do with the current budget crisis.

The Odunde (Oh-doon-day) Festival returns to South Philly for its 50th anniversary. The country's largest African-American street festival transforms South Street into a global celebration of Black joy, art, and culture. There's entertainment, global cuisine, and over 150 vendors. A parade today leads up to concerts tonight, with rappers Rakim and Doug E. Fresh being the headliners. Mayor Parker is challenging City Council President Kenyatta Johnson to a dance-off at the concert... Odunde's mission is to help educate the public on African and African-American culture. The week-long celebration brings in $28-million dollars to the city. This week brings Camden’s fifth Annual Pride Walk, and the event will lead right into the Camden Art Crawl. Tuesday is a big day for New Jersey Democrats. With Republican Jack Ciattarelli (chit-a-RELL-ee) embraced by President Donald Trump for the governor's race, the Democratic primary offers a lot of drama. We love our pro sports teams here in Philly, but there's one team you may not know about that's vying for the hearts of local fans. La Salle University is hosting a unique telethon: a day of game shows produced on campus and streamed worldwide for a good cause.

Dozens came to Center City Saturday afternoon to celebrate the disabled community. The day kicked off with a parade, followed by a party on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. ... Firefighters had to deal with a multi-alarm fire at a large abandoned apartment building at 48th and Locust near west philly high school this morning. Philadelphia Police are asking for the public's help in identifying the vehicles in a hit-and-run crash involving a 3-year-old boy. It happened around 9pm Thursday night at the intersection of 33rd and Susquehanna in Strawberry Mansion. Officials say the boy was with his mother and other family members. They were getting ready to put him back into a car when the child walked out into the street. And that’s when police say a blue SUV hit the boy, as well as a white pickup truck, neither of them stopping. The SUV, they say, was last seen around 32nd and Diamond Streets. Luckily, the boy wasn't severely injured. He never lost consciousness, but was treated at Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia for bruises and scratches. This man, Steve, works in neighborhood where it happened. He says far too many drivers speed through this intersection and are reckless. Chief Inspector Scott Small says they’re going check the neighborhood for surveillance video as they try to identify and find the two drivers who were involved. If you have any information, police ask that call 215-686-TIPS. At least two coyotes have been spotted this week approaching people walking their dogs in Wissahickon Valley Park. As state budget negotiations continue in Harrisburg, lawmakers from Philadelphia want to be sure there's enough funding for the nation's 250th anniversary celebrations.

A 2-year-old boy is in the hospital after being hit by two different cars in strawberry mansion. Police are looking for the drivers of a blue SUV and a white pick-up truck who they say hit the toddler and fled the scene. Chief Inspector Scott small: .... The Philadelphia city council reaches an agreement with Mayor Cherelle Parker's administration for a tentative $6.8 billion budget for 2026. Mayor Parker announcing that the budget will include $2 billion dollars going toward a housing program. The mayor's office announcing that the $2 billion dollar h.o.m.e initiative plans to "build, preserve and restore" 30,000 housing units in the city. The preliminary budget also includes $30 million for anti-violence grants, as well as funding for more body-worn cameras for Philadelphia police officers. The budget also includes $350 million in grants to pave streets in the city. Council president Kenyatta Johnson confirmed the deal, saying a vote for final approval will take place June 12. .... A hunger relief organization is helping residents in Delaware county better fight food insecurity through a major expansion. .... A new chapter for the Frankford library. After about two-and-a-half years of renovations, it's now back up and running much to the delight of the community.

Police officials have announced the arrest of a teenager in the abduction and rape of a 12-year-old girl over the weekend in North Philadelphia. KYW Newsradio's Crime and Justice reporter Kristen Johanson has the story from the city’s Special Victims Unit. SEPTA says 40 decommissioned buses were damaged in this morning’s three-alarm fire at the Midvale Depot in North Philadelphia. The flames sending thick, black smoke into the sky, causing some concern about the air quality. KYW Newsradio’s Mike DeNardo reports… With energy prices still climbing, New Jersey lawmakers have been working on different ways to provide relief. Governor Phil Murphy announced a plan today to put some money back in people’s pockets. Details from KYW Newsradio South Jersey reporter Mike Dougherty. A Temple Health employee was assaulted while walking along North Broad Street in North Philadelphia yesterday (WED) afternoon. According to Temple Police, the employee was struck from behind and knocked to the ground near the University's Health Sciences Center. The individual was taken to the hospital where they were treated for injuries suffered in the attack. A person of interest is in custody.

Pope Leo yesterday donning a baseball hat emblazoned with a Villanova ‘v’. Social media video shows the Pope — and the audience at the Vatican — react with surprise and delight to the gift. It happened as the 19-77 Villanova grad welcomed the national Italian American foundation for its 50th anniversary. Three 17-year-olds were killed, and a 15-year-old was injured when a car crashed in Limerick, Tuesday night fleeing police. Police say a Nazareth man shot and killed his in-laws Tuesday night inside their Northampton County home. Transit advocates from across Pennsylvania rallied on the statehouse steps Wednesday morning, for funding to stave-off deep service cuts. A new bill in New Jersey would create a centralized database for available affordable housing units so people can more easily see the options for them.

Pennsylvania's Department of Environmental Protection has issued a Code Orange alert for Philadelphia, parts of South Jersey, and the Lehigh Valley today. This is for the smoke making its way here from those wildfires in Canada. Officials saying under the Code Orange... young children, elders, and those with respiratory problems are at high vulnerability and should limit outdoor activity. The worst of the bad air quality is expected to develop in the late morning into the afternoon. Dozens came to Lemon Hill at Fairmount Park, the site of last Monday's deadly mass shooting, to collectively mourn and help support the victims and their families. KYW Newsradio's Vik Ragupathi was there. A horrific scene in Limerick, Montgomery County after a single-car crash. Limerick police say shortly after 9 pm... three men accused of retail theft were fleeing police when they crashed their car near the intersection of Ridge Pike and Sunset Road. At least two of the men have been transported to the hospital. Officials are still investigating. A lawsuit claiming the University of Pennsylvania mishandled antisemitism complaints has been dismissed by a federal judge. With more here is KYW Newsradio's John McDevitt. A neighborhood group is suing the city of Philadelphia, hoping to stop the installation of solid barriers to protect bike lanes on Spruce and Pine streets.
